Sak Tzevul

El rock progresivo y la música tradicional confluyen en distintos espacios y regiones, pero es sorprendente, en apariencia, encontrarse a un grupo de raíces indígenas, formado en el seno de una comunidad en Zinacantán, Chiapas. Nos encontramos frente a Sak Tzevul, una banda influida por Caifanes, Lacrimosa y Pink Floyd, y permeada en los sonidos y rezos del folklor chiapaneco, con la instrumentalización de un bajo y guitarra eléctrica, batería, violonchelo, tambores y una guitarra tzotzil de 12 cuerdas.
A decir de los miembros de este grupo transfronterizo, Sak Tzevul —fundado en 1996— es “una buena forma de decirle al mundo que los indígenas estamos presentes en los cambios y retos que la sociedad moderna nos impone, con la clara convicción de no perder nuestra identidad”.
Su nombre deviene de la conjunción de los vocablos ‘trueno’ y ‘relámpago’, que, a la vez, relucen el signo musical, como simbolización divina. Toda una cosmovisión integral que, bajo la estafeta de la música, busca la armonía.
Sak Tzevul nos demuestra que la música de los pueblos originarios posee la calidad, innovación y fuerza que el resto de producciones de música postmoderna, desde distintos tópicos, la naturaleza, la dualidad humana —padre y madre—, el sincretismo, para derribar prejuicios.
Sak Tzevul cuenta con dos producciones; la más reciente se titula Xch’ulel Balamil (Espíritu de la tierra), y fue lanzada en el 2009, de forma independiente.
